Workshop on Climate Science and Services:
Coastal Applications for Decision Making through
Sea Grant Extension and Outreach

April 10 — 12, 2007
Charleston, South Carolina

Dear Colleague:

You are cordially invited to participate in the Workshop on Climate Science and Services: Coastal Applications for Decision Making through Sea Grant Extension and Outreach, April 10 — 12, 2007, in Charleston, South Carolina.

The purpose of this workshop is to explore and foster the use of the Sea Grant extension, communications, and education networks as a facilitator of climate science and services in coastal decision making at the local level. The workshop will facilitate a dialogue among representatives of the Sea Grant climate extension network and the climate research and services communities. An opportunity will be provided for Sea Grant extension specialists to develop a better understanding of some of the current and future impacts of climate in coastal regions and the range of existing and emerging decision-support resources available for coping with these impacts. In addition, the workshop is intended to generate insight into the climate information needs of the Sea Grant extension network, as well as to foster collaboration among climate research and service providers, and the Sea Grant community. Several marine educators and communicators will be invited via a separate process. A workshop overview is included with this invitation, and an agenda and a workshop Web site will be available in the coming weeks.

Each state program is invited to send one Sea Grant extension specialist to participate in this workshop. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will provide partial support for this participant in the form of a post-workshop reimbursement for three nights of lodging, all meals, and daily transportation between the hotel and the meeting site; please refer to the attached form for information about making hotel reservations. Sea Grant participants will be responsible for their transportation to and from South Carolina, as well as local transportation costs not covered by NOAA (e.g., taxis to and from airports) and other incidentals.

Please return the registration form. Contact Ms. Gale Peek at the NOAA Coastal Services Center (Gale.Peek@noaa.gov) for questions about accommodations, and please feel free to contact me with any additional questions (301-734-1266; Lisa.Vaughan@noaa.gov). We look forward to an exciting workshop in April.

Sincerely,

Lisa Vaughan,
