Brief project summary:
The project will develop the Central and Northern Coastal Ocean Observing
System (CeNCOOS) in open and semi-enclosed bays in the region including
San Francisco Bay, Monterey Bay, Bodega Bay, Humboldt Bay, and Morro
Bay. The focus will be on water temperature and salinity and relating
these changing conditions to ecosystem and human health. This effort
will link with state-sponsored HF-radar mapping of surface currents
and numerical modeling of San Francisco and Monterey Bays and also the
Gulf of Farallones. The temperature and salinity data will be the basis
of specific decision-support indices directed toward harmful algal blooms,
contamination, and integrated ecosystem assessment.
