Pacific Islands Mapping Activities Database

Tapas style page divider

Lead Agency

NOAA Pacific Services Center (PSC).

Participating Jurisdictions

American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and Hawai‘i.

Goal

Provide an informational resource to island mapping communities on past and current NOAA National Ocean Service mapping activities.

Description

This project will involve compiling the various spatial data and mapping activities being initiated in the U.S. Flag Pacific Islands by different NOAA and other federal agency offices. These activities will be captured in a relational database, which will house a summary of the activity (either mapping or data collection), contact information, products developed, and the spatial footprint. This information will eventually be hosted through an Internet Map Server as an informational resource for the islands in the form of a searchable map and data tables.

Outcome

Improved information sharing among mapping organizations in the Pacific.

Potential Project Partners

NOAA Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment, NOAA Coastal Services Center, NOAA Fisheries Service, NOAA National Geodetic Survey, NOAA Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, and NOAA Office of Response and Restoration.
