Engaging Students with Education OpportunitiesMarine Science Curriculum
The classroom integration of NOAA's Honua includes activity guides and lesson plans for students focused on a variety of NOAA-related topics, including climate, hazards, and marine biology. The curriculum uses the local ocean environment as a model through which students learn the scientific process, meet educational benchmarks, and gain an introduction to NOAA science as the next generation of environmental stewards. Curriculum offerings will include resources for grades three to five. Resources for grades six through eight are in development, and additional grades will be completed as funding allows. Pacific Science Challenge Direct interaction with local students and teachers through NOAA Sea Camp is another way the NOAA Pacific Services Center serves the learning community. Currently in its inception year, Sea Camp seeks to expose students and their teachers to climate science and technology, monitoring island watersheds, understanding their role in protecting these areas, and communicating results to the public. Participants learn about the islands' unique ecosystems through hands-on activities and experience-based learning. For more information, visit: Pacific Science Challenge |
