Environmental Literacy
Helping people understand and relate to the world around them, and comprehend their impact on the environment.
Traditional populations place great importance on cultural heritage and ancestral knowledge to keep their resource use and consumption in balance with environmental health. This knowledge is passed down through the generations by working side-by-side with the elders.
By merging traditional knowledge and practices with current educational tools and resources, NOAA's Pacific Services Center (PSC) is helping to build and increase the environmental literacy of today and tomorrow while respecting the foundations of yesterday.
