Land Cover and Change Analysis Project File Description



This ArcView® project file (landcov.apr) is located in the root directory on the CD-ROM. To open the project file, start ArcView, then under the File pull-down menu go to Open Project. From the Dialog box, point to the CD-ROM drive and select landcov.apr.

Please be aware that the ArcView project file will load at different speeds depending on the user's computer hardware. It may take up to 5 minutes for the project file to load on your computer.

Land Cover and Change Analysis Project File

Two pull-down menus have been added to the View and Layout document types. These menus are: DATASETS, which provides links to data sets that have been thematically grouped into views, and MAPS, which provides access to "ready to print" map layouts. A metadata button, symbolized by an M icon, has been added to the View documents, to provide easy access to a Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC)-compliant metadata record for the active themes in the view. The other button, a T allows you to view statistics tables for the Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) data.

This Arcview project file contains eight different Views, each of which covers one of the following South Carolina counties: Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, Horry, and Jasper. Each view contains the following themes:

Land Cover Change Analysis Data 1990 to 1995 These data were analyzed according to the Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) protocol to determine changes in land cover for the period between 1990 to 1995.
Land Cover Data 1995 These data were analyzed according to the Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) protocol to determine 1995 land cover.
Land Cover Data 1990 These data were analyzed according to the Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) protocol to determine 1990 land cover.
Street File These data were generated from 1994 Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Reference System (TIGER)/Line files.
Line Hydrography These data were generated from 1994 TIGER/Line files.
Polygon Hydrography These data were generated from 1994 TIGER/Line files.
Population by Block Group These data were generated from 1994 TIGER/Line files.
South Carolina County Boundaries These data were generated from 1994 TIGER/Line files.


Please Note:

In order to make this project file compatible across various platforms, a system check script is run. Once the ArcView version number is determined, the appropriate project file is opened from within the data directory.

Saving Changes to the ArcView Project File:

If changes are made to the project file, save the project to your local hard drive using the Save File As option from the File pull-down menu in the Project Window. In order to use this new saved version of your project file the CD-ROM containing the data must be inserted in your CD-ROM drive.
