The beach renourishment database included on this CD-ROM is part of a research project supported by the South Carolina Task Force on Offshore Resources, which receives federal support from the Minerals Management Service International Activities and Marine Minerals Division (INTERMAR) program. One of the primary objectives of this study was to compile all available historical information about beach renourishment in South Carolina as a self-contained, concise, reference resource for anyone interested in beach renourishment. Sociopolitical, physical, and biological parameters of nourishment projects undertaken in South Carolina from the first project in 1954 through 1999 are included in this database. Data were collected from published and unpublished project monitoring reports and other data sources. Monitoring reports varied in scope and detail, as did the projects themselves. In some cases reports contained quantitative information while in others the data were primarily qualitative. Variations in the quality of post-renourishment project monitoring and reporting have led to some gaps in the database.
These data are available for Debidue Island, Edisto Island, Folly Island, Hilton Head Island, Hunting Island, Myrtle Beach, and Seabrook Island.
