GIS Tutorials

This section provides ArcView® geographic information system (GIS) techniques to allow beginning users access to data included on the CD-ROM.

These tutorials have been developed for those in the coastal resource management community who are not familiar with the more technical aspects of GIS and remote sensing data. They provide techniques for using the data provided on the CD-ROM in ArcView.

  This section provides information and instructions for acquiring and loading LIDAR data into an ArcView project.

• Creating Grids, Contours and Hillshades in ArcView Spatial Analyst®
  This section describes how to create contours from LIDAR data in ArcView Spatial Analyst.
  Note: Spatial Analyst is an add-on extension that can be purchased for use with ArcView.

• Creating Grids Using ARC/INFO®
  This section provides the commands used in ARC/INFO and its GRID module to create grids.
  This method was used to generate the data products on this CD-ROM.

• Useful ArcView Extensions
  This section describes customized extensions you can load and unload in ArcView to increase functionality.

• Manipulating Legends in ArcView
  This section describes how to work with the ArcView legend editor to customize map legends.

• Projecting Data in ArcView
  This section describes how to project data into different coordinate systems using an ArcView extension.
