Sedimentation and Erosion Action Plans

The Tillamook Bay Watershedbook Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) describes five erosion and sedimentation actions. Through these actions, work will be undertaken to upgrade and maintain forest roads, decommission some old forest management roads, and ensure that best forestry management practices are used to minimize erosion from forest lands. CCMP actions will also work to control runoff from construction and development in urban areas. Because vegetation is an essential natural filter for reducing sediment input into waterways, CCMP habitat actions to enhance forested riparian, upland instream, and tidal wetland areas will work to achieve sedimentation and erosion objectives as well. Similarly, several CCMP water quality objectives apply to the sedimentation and erosion issue because excess sediment is one of the pollutants degrading Tillamook waters.
Sedimentation and erosion priorities focus on upgrading forest roads such as those seen in the images below of an Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) road maintenance project.

As more forest road, riparian habitat, and other improvement projects are implemented throughout the watershed, monitoring for turbiditybook at water quality stations will help measure the effectiveness of CCMP sedimentation and erosion control efforts.
