About this CD-ROM
Information about the hazards affecting the Case Study
site,
New Hanover County, North Carolina.
Introduction
This section identifies major weather events occurring
in New Hanover County between 1962 and 1998. The data are provided by
the NOAA National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information
Services (NESDIS) National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). Some of the
earlier large-scale events were originally recorded as statewide or
regional occurrences affecting numerous counties. These events are
included in the total number of occurrences since their descriptions
indicate that they could reasonably be assumed to have impacted New
Hanover County. This section is provided as a resource to illustrate that data are available to help communities identify the types and frequencies of various hazards that affect them.
