Category: 2 (at landfall in N.C.), 4 (Highest)

Wind Speed: 92 miles per hour with gusts of 100 mph (North Carolina), 132 miles per hour (Highest)

Major Areas Affected: New Hanover and Brunswick Counties, North Carolina

Major Damage Types: Structural, agricultural (corn, soybeans, and peanuts), and environmental (beach erosion)

Total Dollar Damage: $85 million (North Carolina)

Deaths: 3 (North Carolina)

Injuries: Not available

Structural Damage: Fewer than 100 homes totally destroyed and 600 suffered severe damage

Special Details: Mostly wind damage, extensive flooding, uprooted trees, and crop losses near $25 million. Evacuation and disaster management strategies were tested. Hurricane Diana's winds tested the state's modified building codes.
