GIS Classes

The NOAA Coastal Services Center offers beginning and intermediate GIS classes for coastal resource managers. These two-day training sessions center on using coast-related data and issues. Some of the classes are targeted toward particular coastal resource managers, such as those employed by the nation's Marine Sanctuaries and Estuarine Research Reserves.

Metadata Tool Version 2 Released

Last year the Center created an ArcView® extension that helps users create metadata. A new version, the ArcView Metadata Collector v2.0, makes the process even more user-friendly. The updated version includes a new and improved user interface; more saving, editing, and appending features; and more attribute documentation options.

Risk and Vulnerability Assessment Model for Coastal Communities

The first step in developing an effective hazard mitigation plan is to identify a community's level of risk and degree of vulnerability. The Community Vulnerability Assessment Tool is a step-by-step process that helps coastal communities accomplish this task.

The CD-ROM will be released by the Center in late fall. To receive a copy, call the Center's clearinghouse at (843) 740-1210.
