Thank you for publishing and distributing the informative Coastal Services magazine. The periodical provides current issues that are incorporated within our curriculum to challenge my science students.
The Water Woes (May/June 2003) of the Southwest Florida Water Management District are truly disturbing when a Floridian considers that the adjacent South Florida Water Management District has an average of 1.7 billion gallons a day of fresh water dumped directly into the ocean. Furthermore, Florida loses about 10 percent of its potable water through leaks in pipes.
It's too bad that these Water Management Districts don't use the money to undertake action to improve these drinking water loss statistics instead of erecting desalinization plants.
