Coastal GeoTools '03 will be held January 6 to 9, 2003, in Charleston, South Carolina. Registration deadline is November 29.
This biennial national conference showcases coastal uses of geospatial tools and technologies, such as geographic information systems, the Global Positioning System, remote sensing, and the Internet. Coastal resource managers around the country are using geospatial technology to address shoreline erosion, prepare land use plans, undertake port and waterfront planning, and protect people and property from natural hazards.
GeoTools promotes the use and understanding of this technology to enhance coastal management. The conference is sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center.
In its third offering, the conference will feature presentations by a wide variety of government, academic, and industry organizations. Topics will include shoreline change, land use and community development, data access and management, and industry trends and contracting.
Keynote speaker will be Vice Admiral Conrad C. Lautenbacher Jr., U.S. Navy (Ret.), under secretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere and NOAA administrator. Participants will also have access to training sessions, special interest meetings, poster presentations, and an expanded exhibitor area.
