The IWG - OCM Workshop
September 11 to September 13, 2007
Technical Program
Preliminary Agenda:
Interagency Working Group on Ocean and Coastal Mapping
Technical Workshop
NOAA Coastal Services Center
Charleston, South Carolina
September 11–13, 2007
Overview
The Interagency Working Group on Ocean and Coastal Mapping
(IWG-OCM) is creating an inventory to increase the efficiency
of the nation's ocean and coastal mapping activities by
offering a registry of completed and projected mapping activities,
as well as a clearinghouse for data and interpretive information.
These tools will reduce duplication of effort and enable
cooperative activities.
The inventory portal will increase the value of data and
information resources initially by facilitating access to
appropriate data—and later by facilitating integration
of data and map products. Ultimately the inventory should
serve as the platform for the development of new tools for
data integration and application.
IWG-OCM was established by the Joint Subcommittee on Ocean
Science and Technology (JSOST). The IWG-OCM Inventory is
a response to the U.S. Ocean Action Plan, the Energy Policy
Act of 2005, and OMB Circular A-16.
Workshop Objectives
This interagency technical workshop will a) review existing
agency and interagency data management tools, b) establish
requirements for a comprehensive inventory, c) develop a
design for the proposed inventory, including alternative
strategies for development and implementation, d) identify
agency resources available for development and implementation,
and d) recommend an implementation program, including timelines
and priorities, with the objective of rapidly implementing
the inventory framework consistent with future expansion
and enhancement. Agency representatives should be prepared
to contribute in all aspects of the discussion—including
the identification of potentially available agency resources
or the commitment of resources to continue this effort in
fiscal year 2008 and beyond.
Workshop Organization
The workshop will begin at 8:30 Tuesday morning, and end
at 1:00 Thursday afternoon.
