This page is intended for geographic information systems (GIS) users in the Pacific Islands region. Use the links on this page to visit sites that contain spatial datasets for islands in the study area. Also included are links to spatial analysis tools.

GIS Data Links

  • Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary GIS Data Archive – In addition to bathymetric data for the island of Tutuila, this site contains numerous GIS data sets for all islands in the Territory of American Samoa.

  • NOAA's Biogeography Program – The Pacific Territories Data Download page contains habitat maps, shoreline, and elevation data for Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), and American Samoa.

  • Hawaii Statewide GIS Program – At this site you will find numerous data sets for the islands of Hawaii, including physical, political, environmental, and hazards-related data.

  • NOAA's Ocean Service MapFinder – Use this site to access imagery and spatial data, including nautical charts, bathymetry, and Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) data, for all U.S. possessions in the Pacific Ocean.

  • Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) Data – Use the NOAA Coastal Services Center's C-CAP Data Distribution Tool to view and download landcover data for the coastal zone.

  • U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Download – Use this page to access and download Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and Digital Line Graphs (DLGs) in varying scales and resolutions.

Tools

  • ShapeNADCON – An ArcView® 3.x-based tool, as well as a stand-alone application, that allows for conversion between several island-based datums and NAD27 or NAD83.

  • Chart Viewer and Chart Reprojector – Allow you to easily view and reproject NOAA navigational charts in both ArcView 3.x and ArcGIS 8.x.
