Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Programs

Territory of American Samoa

IKONOS imagery of Tutuila-main island of American SamoaThe Territory of American Samoa, located approximately 2,300 miles southwest of Honolulu, consists of five volcanic islands and two coral atolls. Located on the main island of Tutuila, the American Samoa Coastal Management Program works to preserve and manage the diverse coastal resources of this remote island chain. Follow this link for more information on the American Samoa Coastal Management Program.

Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands

IKONOS imagery of Saipan-main island of CNMIThe Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Coastal Resource Management Office is charged with protecting 206 miles of coastline on 14 different islands. Like American Samoa, this program works to preserve coastal resources while upholding the unique culture found on the islands. Follow this link for more information on the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Coastal Resource Management Office.

Guam

IKONOS imagery of GuamThe Guam Coastal Management Program works to protect and preserve the coastal resources located on Guam, an island territory located approximately three-quarters of the way from Hawaii to the Philippines. A popular Asian tourist destination, the island faces increased development pressures in the coastal zone. Follow this link for more information on the Guam Coastal Management Program.

Hawaii

Landsat ETM satellite imagery of Oahu IslandLocated on the island of Oahu, the Hawaii Coastal Zone Management Program protects a large coastal zone that is home to almost 1.2 million permanent residents and millions more tourists each year. Like many of the other coastal programs in the study area, the Coastal Zone Management Program works to promote smart growth and development in the coastal zone while protecting the unique and diverse environment. Follow this link for more information on the Hawaii Coastal Zone Management Program.
