The NOAA Coastal Services Center hosted a workshop on February
6-7, 2008 to discuss data management with FY07 IOOS grantees. Other
participants included representatives from the National Federation
of Regional Associations (NFRA), the Data Management and Communication
(DMAC) group, and members of the NOAA IOOS Program Office. The workshop
agenda included a range of topics such as system architecture, data
transport, data content standards, dictionaries, schemas, and documentation.
Participants with first-hand experience in designing and applying data
management practices for the grants were the primary audience for this
workshop.
Goals of the workshop included identifying synergy and collaboration
points among grantees, and sharing of technical information related
to recent data transport and data content model efforts within NOAA.
The intended benefits of the workshop were:
- Learn about and participate in forming data content standards.
- Hear about recent findings of Data Transport Lab experiments.
- Plan how to align your work with the IOOS Data Integration Framework Project.
- Hear about recent Ocean.US activities.
- Network with other grantees who have similar interests and goals.
