Integrated Ocean Observing System

The national system developed to capture and deliver coastal and ocean data is the Integrated Ocean Observibg System (IOOS). The role of the NOAA coastal Services Center in this process is to help coastal and ocean professionals become better equipped to manage coastal and marine resources by using ocean observation information and tools. To meet this goal, the Center works with data providers and end users on the local, sstate, regional, and national levels (see the Ocean.US and NOAA IOOS Program Office websites for more information on national efforts).

This website profiles some of the Center's IOOS initiatives.

  • Regional IOOS Component-Working with IOOS regional associations to engage stakeholders in the determination of data and information needs, the build-out of the observing system, and the development of targeted products to meet stated needs.

  • Data Coordination-Working with data providers to develop a framework that offers easy access and sharing of the data and, in turn, the best products for constituents.

  • IOOS Applications-Expanding the use of this powerful data source by providing examples of IOOS in action.
