Negotiating for Coastal Resources

Overview

This one-day to one-and-a-half-day instructor-led interactive course provides participants with practical skills and information on all facets of negotiation. The course includes the roles and applications of advocacy, negotiation, facilitation, education, and outreach and teaches negotiating skills and strategies using coastal management and land use case studies.

What You Will Learn

After completing this course, participants will be able to

  • Understand the relationships between negotiation and other conflict management and collaborative processes
  • Plan and prepare for negotiations using principled negotiation practices
  • Demonstrate techniques to overcome barriers to negotiation
  • Evaluate the process and outcomes of a negotiation

Host Requirements

This training is provided by request and will be fulfilled as resources are available. Classes can be taught at the NOAA Coastal Services Center training facility or brought to your organization. The Center reserves the right to cancel the course in the event of low enrollment. The cost is minimal for participants and host organizations.
