Weather and Hazards Data Viewer

About the Data

This tool has been developed as a GIS Internet map server application to enable users to share data and analyses with other decision makers. The weather forecast information is provided by the NOAA Weather Service’s National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) and is updated four times daily: 0015, 0615, 1215, and 1815 UTC. The NDFD provides forecast information from NOAA weather forecast offices for any location through a series of forecast grids detailing sensible weather elements (e.g., wind speed, temperature, etc.). A unique component of this tool is the sharing of NDFD data layers through an existing external Internet map service, which is provided by NOAA’s nowCOAST. NowCOAST is a GIS Web mapping portal to real-time coastal information developed by the NOAA Ocean Service’s Coast Survey Development Lab. Other map services of radar data and fire layers are provided by the Iowa Environmental Mesonet and GeoMac.

Accessing the Data

NWS Hazards are fully viewable for the following states: Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

NWS Hazards are partially viewable for the following states: Colorado, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

All layers in the viewer can be accessed by clicking the Data Access button in the lower right-hand corner of the tool. This will link the user to WMS, XML/KML, and shapefiles to use in their own GIS for analyses.
