Estuary Data Mapper

Contributing Partners:

The Estuary Data Mapper is a free, stand-alone tool for searching, viewing, and downloading geospatial data for estuaries and their associated watersheds in the conterminous United States. Using a variety of federal agency Web services, the tool provides ready access to environmental time series data such as water and sediment quality, freshwater discharge, and tides. Users can select specific data sets for display and download or choose prepackaged options for input into specific decision-support tools and models. Outputs are available in open-source formats, including shapefiles, kml files, and ASCII grids.

Features

  • Visualizes estuary-scale geographical regions, including watersheds, streams and estuaries, and land cover
  • Retrieves and visualizes estuarine data from several federal agencies for specified dates and areas of interest, including water quality, gauge measurements of tides and freshwater discharges, modeled nitrogen deposition, land use, and topography and bathymetry
  • Saves data subsets for further analysis and import into applications such as the Environmental Protection Agency’s estuarine data model, ArcGIS or open source GIS, and Google Earth

Technical Specifications

  • The Estuary Data Mapper runs on Windows, Mac OSX, 32-bit and 64-bit Linux and requires an Internet connection for data access.
