Who Is Jessie Ritter?
I’m a Duke University graduate student getting my Masters in Environmental Management with a focus on coastal and ocean issues. It was a treat to spend my summer internship working at the Coastal Services Center in Charleston, SC. When I wasn’t busy sampling the shrimp and grits at virtually every restaurant in Charleston, I was playing fisheries data detective for the Human Dimensions team.

If I’ve learned anything from my Coastal Services Center colleagues this summer, it’s that all data was created for a particular reason. No data set can do it all or should do it all. And oftentimes, the more specific the data’s intended purpose, the greater the limitations and the opportunities associated with it.
