Overview

The National Land Cover Database (NLCD) Percent Canopy Closure surface provides nationally consistent estimates of the amount of canopy closure present over a given area in a seamless form. These raster data sets are derived from Landsat satellite imagery, circa 2001, using Classification and Regression Tree analysis. Values range from 0 to 100 percent, indicating the degree to which the area is covered by tree canopy.
