Oregon Coastal Inundation Visualization Tool Interactive Mapping

[image of study area for the pilot project, Tillamook County Oregon Netarts and Rockaway Littoral Cells]The Coastal Inundation Visualization Tool's interactive mapping allows users to view, interact with, and analyze spatial data for the coastal county of Tillamook, Oregon within the Netarts and Rockaway Littoral Cells. With this tool all information is available in one location, in a graphical format, and is near real-time. Applications for these data may include shoreline change analysis, beach slope determination, and dune-toe erosion.

Tool Features

Users can view near real-time ocean buoy and gage information, current weather and forecasts, and observation graphs that display such information as storm surge (i.e., predicted vs. observed tidal elevation). Some of the spatial data layers users will interact with are

  • coastal inundation data*
  • dune toe line
  • beach profile points
  • aerial photographs
  • mean high water line

*Data are a combined effect of the wave runup (calculated using the Ruggiero et al. (2001) runup model) and the tidal component derived from adjacent tide gages. Follow this link to learn how wave runup is calculated for the application. Source: Ruggiero, P.; Komar, P.D.; McDougal, W.G.; Marra, J.J.; and Beach, R.A., 2001.
