This image was collected using a thermal infrared sensor operating in the 8-9µm wavelengths. The sensor was mounted on the underside of a helicopter and flown longitudinally along the center of the stream. Digital image frames were acquired sequentially with a spatial resolution of 0.5 meters and a ground footprint of 160 meter (wide). Raw images contained digital numbers which were converted to temperatures based on the calibration characteristics of the sensor and the radiation transfer equation. Path length attenuation was further adjusted empirically using a series of in-stream temperature data loggers distributed along the survey course resulting in an overall accuracy of (±0.5°C).
