Land Cover Analysis
Project Data: Lake St. Clair, Ontario, Canada Land Cover ChangePeriod
1995 – 2000 DescriptionLake St. Clair is among the most heavily used portions of the Great Lakes, providing substantial ecological, recreational, and commercial benefits to the United States and Canada. The Lake St. Clair basin contains six watersheds in Michigan and Ontario encompassing 9,300 square miles – a region identified by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and Environment Canada as priority habitat for preservation and restoration. The Great Lakes Commission and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center have partnered to characterize Lake St. Clair coastal habitats. As part of this project, land cover and land cover change analyses were conducted for the Canadian side of the Lake St. Clair area. The U.S. side of the Lake St. Clair area was developed as part of the coastal Great Lakes mapping project. Lake St. Clair data were developed using Landsat Thematic Mapper and Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper satellite imagery.
