Regional Data: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Eastern Connecticut Land Cover Change

Period

1991 – 1997

Land cover map of the Massachusetts coast

Description

In 1998 a land cover change detection for Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and eastern Connecticut was undertaken. The change detection was conducted using Landsat Thematic Mapper imagery (Path 11, Row 31) from Nahant, Massachusetts to the Connecticut River. A C-CAP seagrass coverage for all of Massachusetts is also complete. These data present a unique opportunity to use both seagrass and land cover change data to evaluate a wide variety of coastal management issues.

A descriptive summary of this data set is available in Portable Document Format (PDF). The summary includes a report of the dominant land cover changes, tabular summaries of the 1991 and 1997 land cover data sets, and a change matrix (or tabular summary) for the 1991-1997 change data set.
