Tracking Wetland ChangeAltamaha Riverkeeper, GeorgiaBrief Project Overview
Coastal managers and researchers from Georgia expect to apply the Coastal Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) change data to examine changes in the wetlands along the Altamaha River and coastal area. One such group, Altamaha Riverkeeper, is dedicated to restoring and preserving the habitats, water, and flow of the river. One of the organization's main concerns is the loss and alteration of wetlands along the length of the waterway. Researchers hope to use the change detection data to help pinpoint areas where poor agricultural, forestry, and development practices are harming the wetlands. This will enable steps to be taken to alleviate the problem before these wetlands are irreparably damaged. To learn more about the Altamaha Riverkeeper, visit www.altamahariverkeeper.org. |
