2013 State Projects


The six projects selected for the 2013-2015 fellowship are located at coastal resource agencies in the following states and territories. A summary of each project follows.

Boston, Massachusetts Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management Expanding Climate Change Adaptation Options in Massachusetts by Addressing Competing-Use Issues for Beach Nourishment (PDF) Address competing marine resource use issues and promote beach and dune nourishment in Massachusetts as a viable and cost-effective climate change adaptation tool for shore protection
Portsmouth, New Hampshire New Hampshire Coastal Program Development of an Estuarine Spatial Planning Framework for New Hampshire's Estuaries and Application of the InVEST Tool to Restoration Challenges in the Great Bay Estuary (PDF) Establish a GIS-based decision-support framework to improve spatial planning for New Hampshire's estuaries and use InVEST to inform priority restoration and management issues in the Great Bay Estuary
Albany, New York New York Department of State Division of Coastal Resources Continuing New York's Offshore Planning for the Ocean and Great Lakes (PDF) Develop a guide and methodologies for the application of geospatial tools for use in New York's offshore planning
Newport, Oregon Oregon Coastal Management Program Beaches in Crisis: Competing Uses and Oregon's Changing Coastline (PDF) Create an improved data repository and framework for Oregon's ocean shore permitting process that can be used to plan for erosion impacts, improve storm response, protect the public interest, and other purposes
