Support
Each island provides support to the assistant though
its coastal resource organization‘s technical manager. The
technical manager provides support on project-specific issues and
helps to integrate the assistant into the daily life of the organization.
Integration into the office environment is essential to ensure that
the assistant has the resources, training, and support needed to
complete the project successfully.
In addition to receiving on-island support, the assistants will
benefit from the NOAA Pacific Services Center (PSC) and the NOAA
Coastal Services Center, which will offer administrative support,
technical and process skills training, and technical support. The
assistants will be able to draw from the two centers‘ resources
and skills to advance their projects and professional development.
Assistantship Documentation
An important component of each assistant‘s work is the development
of materials that document his or her work and activities. The purpose
of the documentation is to give existing and future staff members
a reference that includes information about hardware, software,
training opportunities, project plans, contacts, applications, and
links to other relevant reference material.
Another element of the documentation is the project plan. These
plans will be completed within the first three to six months of
the assistantship. Plans will then be updated on a semiannual basis
to reflect the dynamic nature and current needs of the coastal management
offices. Copies of the assistants‘ work plans will be available
in spring 2004.
