The Cousteau Society is a membership-supported not-for-profit organization dedicated to the protection and improvement of the quality of life for present and future generations, with a focus on oceans ecosystems.
Founded in 1973 by Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the Society now has more than 150,000 members worldwide. The Society believes that only an informed and alerted public can make the decisions necessary to protect and manage the world's natural resources.

The Cousteau Society has been involved in innovative engineering and research efforts such as the Aqualung, new wind-propulsion systems, and measuring primary sea productivity.
