In general, the term collaborative process refers to the process of bringing together individuals of differing perspectives and supporting them in working toward common or compatible goals. A variety of processes can be defined under this broad umbrella term, although specific characteristics of different types of collaborative processes may vary.
Participants in a process may seek to exchange information, reach consensus on a decision or action, or work together to resolve a conflict. In each instance, the goal of the collaborative process is to create a safe environment for involvement, so people can work together to identify and solve problems, make decisions, or resolve conflict.
