Information Survival Skills


Welcome to the Information Survival Skills module of the Survival Skills for Coastal Resource Managers course. The goal of this unit is to increase your ability to find, utilize, manage, and disseminate information and data from a variety of sources. This module is intended to be a primer on information survival skills. More in-depth information is contained in the classroom-based components of this course.

This Web-based portion of the course will provide you with the following:

  • The ability to more effectively use libraries as a research tool.
  • Concepts for effective interviewing of subject matter experts.
  • Instructions for mining information from Internet resources.
  • Guidelines for assessing the quality of information.
  • A review of how to frame different types of questions.
  • An introduction to metadata concepts.
