Interviewing Experts


Where do you find experts?

Now that you have a good idea of why you should get the opinions and advice of subject matter experts, it would help to know the best places to find experts. The following list covers the majority of ways you will locate experts for interviewing:


  • Talk to other nontechnical individuals or journalists to find leading experts.
  • Find names in popular articles, journals, newspaper articles, or radio interviews.
  • Call directory assistance if location is included in article.
  • Call the journal, magazine, or newspaper to locate the expert.
  • Search on the Internet (use person's name).
  • Contact the author in the byline of the article.
  • Contact the source that cited the person.
  • Query an Internet discussion group.
  • If you don't have a name, ask for public affairs, outreach, public relations, or the director of the appropriate department.
