Jones County Wetlands Mitigation Case Study

The Decision Maker = You!

a case study and a 'gator

In this case study, you'll assume the role of a state level coastal manager/planner.

In this position, you work primarily on federal consistency reviews for a networked coastal program. Your boss has been asked to give a briefing to other state agencies about a proposed wetlands mitigation project in Jones County. She needs information fast, and has now asked you to evaluate whether this project is one that should proceed, and then create a report. Specifically you have been asked to consider the ecological and socioeconomic impacts of the mitigation proposal, and to determine the feasibility of creating the new wetland tracts.

You'll have a lot to think about, so be ready to take notes!

Note: although it is unlikely that any planner will have to make all of the considerations outlined in this case study, it is important to understand the breadth of information that will go into the final decision.
