Standards and Data Models

Information systems standards define a practice or reference implementation that originates through a planned design or common use. These help to maintain system integrity, reduce costs, enhance integration and limit liability. A broad range of standards are applicable to the regional IOOS, such as collection, quality, classification, content, presentation, transfer, usability, storage and access to name a few. A common data model for all local data providers is possibility the most broadly sought after and necessary set of standards to develop.
