Data Services

Data services provide the infrastructure and procedures to transport and make data accessible to end users and automated applications. Among the broader IOOS community this is predominantly done through static file sharing via FTP, OPeNDAP servers and web services. Two general categories of data services exist, one that links a physical sensor to a data collection or provider facility, and a second category that exposes final certified data records to an end user. Ocean.us policies and plans specify a high level strategy to direct the data transport and access practices toward a service oriented infrastructure.
