Land Cover Analysis

Maui County Land Cover

Maui county

Project Data

Description

Maui county is comprised of 4 islands: Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoolawe (uninhabited). The island of Maui has the second highest population in the state of Hawaii at 141,000 residents. These islands are home to a wide range of climate and vegetation types from cold/temperate in the mountains of Maui to the arid landscapes found on Lanai and Kahoolawe. By using remote sensing technology, we can quantify the land cover features on the island and establish a baseline for monitoring changes.

High Resolution Land Cover data, circa 2005, was produced for Maui County using 2.4 meter Quickbird satellite imagery.

Moderate Resolution Land Cover data, circa 2001 and 2005, were produced using 30 meter Landsat imagery.
