Benthic Habitat Mapping
After completing the other stages of project planning (goals and resolution, study area, data accuracy, and time constraints), project information should be recorded in a statement of work (SOW). An SOW is advisable for all projects and is normally a requirement for any work being conducted under contract. Good statements of work provide general project background and describe all products, processes, deliverables and roles/responsibilities for the project. They also allow opportunities for innovation on the part of the contractor. Example statement of work templates developed by the NOAA Coastal Services Center can be viewed at the links below. Each SOW addresses a specific data collection or mapping technology or process. These sample SOWs are provided as general guidance and contain major project elements. The rationale for each element in these SOWs is included as well as some example text from specific projects. Users are advised to carefully consider their own needs as they adapt this material to their projects, and are encouraged to contact the Center or other sources of expertise as needed during the SOW development process.
