Southeast Region: Core Sound, North Carolina Composite SAV Data Set 1985-1990

This project was initiated by the National Marine Fisheries Service, Beaufort Laboratory in cooperation with North Carolina State University.

The geographic extent of the study area includes Albemarle, Pamlico, and Core Sounds and extends south from Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge near the Virginia border to Cape Lookout. The result of this project was the creation of a methodology for mapping and monitoring shallow water submerged aquatic vegetation. In addition, seagrass mapping in Core Sound has contributed to ongoing restoration and environmental modeling in the same area.
