Northeast Region: Coastal Massachusetts Composite SAV Data Set 1993-1997

This project was initiated by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Wetlands Protection Branch and the Massachusetts Coastal Zone Management Office.

The geographic extent of the study area was the entire coast of Massachusetts as well as the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. The primary purpose of this project was to include baseline SAV data into a master wetlands database that was being assembled at the state level. The state is currently developing a second data set to conduct a change analysis. This information has been used for wetland permitting decisions and most extensively by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to evaluate dredging and dredge disposal proposals.

The Center's role in this project included funding for aerial photography acquisition, in house data conversion, and field validation.
