Map showing
location of animationBelow are two animations of the LIDAR data collection process. The first animation shows the approximately 350-meter wide swath generated by the ATM-2 sensor as the aircraft flies along the shoreline.  The second animation shows a section of the first swath, but at a larger scale.  At the larger scale, the elliptical scan pattern of the ATM-2 is apparent, and the individual spot elevation points can be observed.  The colors displayed in the swath indicate elevation measurements from data recorded during the aircraft surveys. The data shown here were collected on April 26, 1998, around Point Grenville, Washington (see image at left), during the post-El Niño surveys.  Click the Stop button in your browser to stop the animation.
