New Urbanist Design Scenario 3-D Still Shots from Fly-Thru
The new urbanist scenario incorporates several housing types in this area of the site design. The housing types (lot size, square footage) include cottages (0.2 acres/1,125 ft2), townhomes (0.08 acres/1,875 ft2), and villas (0.16 acres/1,750 ft2).
A civic park is provided for residents and public citizens to the right in this view. Note that this park is considered formal because it has fountains and symmetrical designs, and the lawn is maintained.
Note that the new urbanist design includes paved sidewalks that are separated from the road by a grass strip. Saplings have been planted in the area, postconstruction, to help beautify the streetscape.
On the left of the screen are village homes that reflect the Southern character of the area. The cottage homes have an alley system in the back. Accessible from the alleys are the driveways and garages. They also have front porches close to the sidewalk to encourage neighborhood interaction.
On the right of the screen are townhomes. Townhomes also make use of the alley system, which provides parking behind the buildings. The mixed types of homes in this area will encourage more economic and social diversity.
Many of the mature trees were left during the development of this scenario, supplying a tree canopy that provides wildlife habitat, solar shading, and aesthetic beauty.
A curb and gutter stormwater drainage system is used in the new urbanist scenario, as opposed to the conservation scenario, which employs a swale drainage system.
Formal civic parks are shown to the left and right. This scenario includes many parks connected to each other through a series of paths, providing recreational and local transportation benefits. The connectivity of the parks also benefits wildlife by providing linear habitat cover.
A system of pervious walking trails is provided through the parks of this scenario for nature viewing. Sidewalks, benches, and landscaping in the parks provide a pleasing place for interaction between community members. Narrow roads calm traffic and help to reduce impervious surface.
