The Coastal Zone Information Collection (CZIC) Digital Library provides valuable online full text access to over 5,000 coastal related documents located at the NOAA Central Library in Silver Spring, Maryland. The collection provides almost 30 years of data and information crucial to the understanding of U.S. coastal management and NOAA’s mission to sustain healthy coasts. These documents were originally submitted to the NOAA Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) by state coastal zone management programs in accordance with the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA) of 1972. OCRM transferred over 9,000 print documents to the NOAA Coastal Services Center Library in 1996 so the items could be cataloged, bound, processed, and finally made known and available to the general public by listing the items in the online library catalog. Scanning approximately half of the documents in the CZIC Collection resulting in the creation of the CZIC Digital Collection was possible through f unding provided by the NOAA High Performance Computing and Communications ( HPCC), Environmental Services Data and Information Management ( ESDIM), and Environmental Data Rescue ( EDRP) Programs . All areas of this Herculean project were completed in 2003. The NOAA Coastal Services Center Library transferred the CZIC print collection to the NOAA Central Library in 2004 so it could join the other historical collections maintained in Silver Spring, MD. The NOAA Coastal Services Center continues to maintain the CZIC Digital Library. Search the CZIC digital collection. Shortcuts to Other Library Services |
