Service Description: A task force of officials from multiple state, local, and federal government agencies has been convened by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to discuss the designation of wind energy planning areas in federal waters off the coast of South Carolina. The task force process helps minimize the potential for significant conflicts to offshore wind farm construction and operations arise at later stages in the development process. To this end, the agencies on the task force are encouraged to bring information on existing ocean uses like military operation areas, marine transportation and navigation, important fishing areas, sensitive habitat, and view sheds to the table for discussion and consideration. This map includes many of the data layers being used by the South Carolina Renewable Energy Task Force in their decision making process.
The development of potential wind energy planning areas off the coast of South Carolina is an ongoing process and as such the information represented on this map should not be considered final or as an official position of any of the participating agencies.
